In the hierarchy of “The Three Rs” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), reuse comes before recycle for a reason– it’s better to use materials again and give them a second purpose before recycling them. That’s why we’re so obsessed with the amazing artwork of our friend Javad Ashrafi.

Propane tanks, oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers and other pressurized, sealed cylinders pose a serious–and even deadly–danger to recycling workers. We don’t accept these items from the public, and can only accept them from commercial clients under certain circumstances. Read on to find out more.

There’s a reason we take the time to dismantle large machines and equipment before sending them off to the smelter. Sure, it would be a lot quicker and easier to toss these old CNC machines onto our flatbed trucks and cart them off for shredding. But that’s not how it’s done here at Research Alloys!

Five years ago, we relocated from our old, open-air scrap yard to a new property and decided that we would be an enclosed yard, erecting a massive building to house our traditionally outdoor operations. And we couldn’t be happier with the results.

We receive a lot of questions about how we grade aluminum– and that’s easy to understand, as there are hundreds of different types of aluminum across seven series, each with different alloying elements. It’s a lot to keep straight!
