Why We're an Enclosed Recycling Facility

Five years ago, we relocated from our old, open-air scrap yard to a new property and decided that we would be an enclosed yard, erecting a massive building to house our traditionally outdoor operations. And we couldn’t be happier with the results.

There are many advantages to housing our scrap operations indoors. First and foremost is worker health and safety– working in a building protects our team from weather extremes like rain, snow, or (currently) the baking hot sun. Our workers are happier and more productive when out of the elements. And customers like it, too, since they’re also dry and protected when they come to sell their scrap materials.

Our equipment reaps the benefits of this weather protection, too. Cranes, balers, forklifts, bobcats and shears are all safely housed in our big blue building, meaning they’ll last longer and can stay in production all year round. And using all of this equipment indoors is better for our surrounding community, and we can contain dust and debris, reduce noise pollution, and the exterior of our property looks much nicer and cleaner for neighbors.

Then there’s security– while all scrap yards in Ohio are required by law to be secured by a fence, we’ve seen near-zero theft and attempted theft over the last five years, as all of our materials are safely locked away indoors.

Additionally, the space constraints of working within an enclosed facility encourage us to stay efficient and well organized– designated areas for different materials have reduced handling time and improved workflow.

And the environmental advantages are really the cherry on top. According the the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, maintaining our scrap materials under roof reduces the risk of fluids and debris washing into drains and surface waters, preventing stormwater contamination

Overall, the decision to build and operate a completely enclosed scrap yard has been tremendously advantageous for our company. We’re proud to operate a safe, clean, and modern facility that is better for people and the planet.
