Safety First

In our never-ending quest to create a safer work environment for our team as well as all of our guests here at Research Alloys, we recently installed a series of AED devices throughout our facility, and the entire staff underwent training on their correct use.

Hopefully we’ll never need to use our new AEDs (automated external defibrillators), but they’re certainly an invaluable life-saving medical device. In the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, the AED analyzes the heart rhythm and can deliver an electrical shock to restore a normal heartbeat.

After the installation of the new wall-mounted devices, the team at  Research Alloys got together to go over the basics of when and how to use the AEDs. Our dedicated trainer, Jeff Zaeske, demonstrated the proper technique for attaching the device’s pads to the body and deploying the critical electric shock. We learned how to react in an emergency situation where the AED may be necessary, as well as what to do with the device after use.

With a five year battery life, we’re hoping that we have to replace the current batteries long before we ever have to use these devices, but it’s reassuring to know that we’re ready to spring into action should the need ever arise.

Did you know you can recycle old AED devices at Research Alloys, too? We’re happy to accept all of the components, from the one-time use pads and their wiring to the metal wall-mount cabinets.

We’re all excited to see what’s next on the safety agenda at this month’s meeting, happening Wednesday, May 20th. Please note that we close early (at 4:00 pm) the third Wednesday of each month to make time to train our team on safety topics.
