At Research Alloys, the only things more important than the metals we buy and sell are our people and our culture. We believe in cultivating an environment where our employees like to come to work, and where the team feels nearly like a family. And our family includes dogs.
This week, our Client Relationship Manager, Jeff Zaeske, brought his adorable little Pearl into the office, and she brightened our days by ceaselessly chasing her tennis ball. Everyone who walks into the office is greeted by adorable little eyes and a wagging tail, and everyone feels better.
If you stop in on a Saturday, peek behind the payment counter and you may find Mack, our office administrator’s Yorkie, or maybe Peanut, the wonderful one-eyed Weimaraner belonging to our Operations Manager.
In a world full of return-to-work mandates, Zoom meetings remote workers, there’s no getting around the fact that scrap yards are an “in-person” job. There’s no way to do what we do from home– no amount of Teams meetings is going to move a pile of sheet iron, and emails can’t load vans full of copper.
So as long as we’re going to be here to get the job done, we like to make the place as cheery as possible… whether that’s our regular birthday party lunches, Saturday morning breakfasts for the weekend crew, or dogs in the office. Studies show that dogs in the workplace can boost employee happiness and sense of collaboration and belonging, and our own research here at Research Alloys indicates that dogs are just plain fun.
While not every workplace welcomes pets, we think that welcoming our furry friends into the office from time to time is an amazing benefit of working here and really highlights the fact that we work hard and play hard, too.
Now, we just need to get Pearl outfitted with some tiny gloves and doggles so we can get her out in the yard!
